The ENMET QUADRANT series gas detector should be calibrated at least once every three months. Field tests should be performed frequently between calibrations. The QUADRANT should be recalibrated if it fails a field test. If the instrument is subjected to shock, from being dropped, exposed to high concentrations of gas, extended gas exposures, etc... it is strongly recommended to perform a field test and recalibrate if necessary.
QUADRANT calibration requires an ENMET calibration kit (P/N 02602-000, 02602-001, 02602-002, 02602-003, 02604-004, or 02602-006 depending on instrument configuration). Calibration should be performed in an area free of contaminants. If there is potential for contaminants, a cylinder of bottled air (20.9% oxygen, balance nitrogen) should be used for zero levels during calibration..
Instrument calibration is performed by entering the maintenance menu, choosing the calib. (calibrate) function, and exposing the sensors to fresh air and span gas values. The procedure is repeated for each sensor installed. From the main gas display, where instrument readings are sequenced every second, press the PLUS button repeatedly until COD 0000 is displayed (may take 15 pushes). This is the password screen to enter the maintenance mode. Enter the proper password by using the PLUS key to increment the digit and the MINUS key to move the cursor to the next digit. When the proper password is displayed, press the ENTER key. If the correct password is entered, the first screen of the maintenance mode is displayed. It is Auto-SET or program depending on how long the instrument has been on. If the password was not correct, bad code appears on the momentarily on the display, then it reverts back to the main gas display.
Once in the maintenance mode, press (and release) the PLUS key until the display reads calib. Now press the ENTER key. Each of sensors can be displayed by repeatedly pressing the PLUS key.
Choose the sensor to be calibrated (for example CO, carbon monoxide) by pressing the ENTER key when the sensor is displayed ( chan CO ). After entering the sensor for calibration, the screen shows the calibration gas concentration ( CG 100 ). This can be changed by using the PLUS and MINUS keys the same way the password was entered. Press ENTER.
The instrument now displays the zero reading (such as 0: 2 ). The number on the left zero, represents zero reading and the number on the right is a relative reading. It may not be zero, but should be close. Make sure you are in a fresh air environment or applying bottled air. When the reading is stable and not steadily increasing or decreasing, press the ENTER key.
Now apply the calibration gas. The instrument now displays the span reading (such as S: 95 ). S for SPAN. The instrument should read close to the calibration gas level, but it may not read exactly the same. When reading is stable, usually after 30-45 seconds, press the ENTER key. If the calibration levels are acceptable, the instrument reads yes/no . Press the ENTER key to accept the calibration or press the MINUS key to refuse it. The instrument then returns to the calib display. If the sensor does not respond sufficiently, it has failed the calibration and the instrument displays used . Press the MINUS key to return to the calib display and attempt calibration again. If it fails, the sensor should be replaced and the cell replacement procedure cell chg followed.
Repeat the above procedure for each sensor. The oxygen sensor only requires a span setting.
